Yambio - Friday May 22, 2026. Hundreds of passionate Arsenal supporters in Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria State, on Friday turned their love for football into meaningful action by organizing a large-scale cleaning campaign at Yambio State Hospital.
The initiative, driven by a spirit of unity and community service, brought together youth from across Yambio County to clean the hospital surroundings, creating a healthier and more welcoming environment for patients and healthcare workers.
The atmosphere was vibrant and purposeful, as young people worked side by side, demonstrating that football fandom can extend far beyond the pitch and into impactful community engagement.
Football Inspiring Positive Change
Speaking during the activity, renowned sports journalist and Arsenal supporter Bongomin Walter emphasized that the initiative was about more than support for a clubโit was about giving back to society.
โWe gathered here not only as football supporters but also as youth committed to supporting our community,โ Walter said. โWe wanted to ensure the hospital environment remains clean and healthy for patients.โ
Walter highlighted the unifying power of football, noting that it can inspire young people to take part in constructive and meaningful activities.
โThis is more than football celebrations. It is about bringing youth together to carry out meaningful work and promote unity in the community,โ he added.
Solidarity Beyond the Game
Silvetor Ruati, Deputy Chairperson of Arsenal supporters in Western Equatoria State, echoed similar sentiments, stressing that the cleaning campaign reflects the groupโs commitment to peaceful engagement and community service.
โAs Arsenal supporters, we decided to celebrate by giving back to the communityโcleaning the hospital premises and showing solidarity with patients and health workers,โ Ruati said.
John Sunday, Chairperson of the Arsenal fansโ group in the state, noted that the initiative also aimed to instill values of discipline, responsibility, and respect among young people.
โWe want to demonstrate that football supporters can contribute positively to society through activities that benefit the wider community,โ Sunday explained.
Hospital Applauds Youth Initiative
The efforts did not go unnoticed. Yambio State Hospital Administrator, John Peter Sangara, expressed gratitude and admiration for the supporters, describing the campaign as a true display of unity and civic responsibility.
โOn behalf of the Western Equatoria State Government and the State Ministry of Health, we appreciate the youth for organizing this cleaning campaign,โ Sangara said. โThis shows love, unity, and commitment to supporting public institutions.โ
He further encouraged other youth groups to embrace peaceful and constructive initiatives that contribute to community development.
A Growing Movement of Impact
With more than one hundred young people actively participating, the cleaning exercise stands as a powerful example of how sports communities can drive positive change beyond entertainment.
As the sun set over Yambio, the impact of the dayโs work was clearโnot just in the cleaner hospital environment, but in the strengthened bonds of unity, purpose, and hope among the youth.
